Ann Arbor attorney Veronique Liem has announced her candidacy for Washtenaw County Circuit Court judge.
The August 5 primary for the open seat vacated by Circuit Court Judge Donald Shelton will be followed by the general election on November 4.
Liem has 25 years of experience in the practice of family law, as a certified collaborative divorce specialist, a mediator and arbitrator, and as a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Liem earned MBA and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Michigan and, before becoming a lawyer, worked in healthcare finance, management and strategic planning. She has practiced law for 27 years, concentrating in family law and commercial litigation. She is currently a shareholder with the Smith Haughey Rice & Roegge law firm.
“In addition to my family law experience, I have represented parties in employment, business, commercial and real estate litigation,” said Liem in a statement.
Liem has served as president of the Washtenaw County Bar Association, and she was a member of the State Bar Representative Assembly, as well as a lecturer for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education. She has served on professional committees and boards. Liem launched the WCBA Public Service Committee, and as its chair encouraged Washtenaw County attorneys to garden for Avalon, bowl for Big Brothers Big Sisters, present the constitution to area middle school students, and send care packages to our soldiers overseas.
Her community activities have included service on the board of directors of Allen Creek Preschool and the Lamaze Association of Washtenaw. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Avalon Housing.
The mother of two children, Veronique Liem is married to local attorney Douglas Coskey.
