Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. recently conducted a free workshop for residents of Wayne, Macomb and Oakland counties on how to represent themselves in small claims court and collect money judgments at Sterling Heights Public Library. Kelly Bidelman, managing attorney of LAD’s Macomb County office in Mount Clemens, conducted the workshop, one of a series on the subject that LAD presents in the tri-county area.
Craig Pappas of the Resolution Center in Mount Clemens gave a presentation on mediation options.

Plaintiffs can only sue for money in small claims court, up to $5,000, Bidelman said.  “And you give up your rights to representation by an attorney, a jury and an appeal to a higher court,” she said.
During a discussion of legal research, Bidelman said that members of the public can conduct free Westlaw searches at Oakland County’s Adams-Pratt Law Library in Pontiac.
