Tamara Garwood announces candidacy for probate judge

 Washtenaw County attorney Tamara Garwood announced Tuesday that she is running for the Washtenaw County Probate Court seat being vacated by the Honorable Nancy C. Wheeler.       

“I will follow the law impartially and without bias, bringing my experience, a sense of fairness, compassion and an open mind to the bench” said Garwood in a statement. 
A graduate of the University of Michigan and Detroit College of Law, Garwood has been an attorney for 14 years and has a depth of experience in many fields.  Her current law practice is devoted to family law and probate matters with Baker, Stringer & Garwood, LLP in Ann Arbor, where she has been a partner for six years.   Garwood worked in the Wayne County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in the Child and Family Abuse Bureau early in her legal career. For the past 15 years, she has focused on family law and probate matters. 
Garwood is a trained mediator who has also volunteered for the Dispute Resolution Center of Washtenaw County.  She has also been appointed as a Guardian ad Litem and Arbitrator.
Garwood is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Washtenaw County Bar Association, Women Lawyers Association of Michigan and American Inns of Court.  She is licensed to practice in the State of Michigan, the Western District of Michigan in the United State District Court and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. 
She and her husband, Gordon, have been married for 14 years and have two daughters, Kyrie and Fiona. She is an avid baker, knitter, runner, and volunteer.
 A primary election on August 5 will be followed by the general election on Nov. 4.
