THIBODAUX, La. (AP) — A pretrial hearing is scheduled next week for five assistant football coaches at Destrehan High accused of cheating.
The Courier reports the coaches, along with one of their girlfriends, are accused of using a South Lafourche High School player’s user name and password to access a website called Hudl where the Tarpons stored playbooks and practice film.
The first court date is at 9 a.m. Feb. 19 before state District Judge Buddy Larose of Thibodaux.
Accused are Destrehan assistant coach Ryan Fournier, 29, and his girlfriend, Emily Guidry, 28, both of Larose; and assistant coaches Wayne Sentilles, 32, of Montz; Daniel Luquet, 30, of Luling; Lance Ledet, 40, of Madisonville; and Greg Boyne, 41, of Hahnville.
Each was charged in October after admitting gaining unauthorized access to South Lafourche’s information.
Fournier, a former South Lafourche assistant coach and player, applied to be the Tarpons’ head football coach the last three times the job was open but was not hired.
All six individuals face offenses against intellectual property use, and each was issued a criminal summons. Penalties include up to a $500 fine and six months in jail.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association forced Destrehan to forfeit its Oct. 25 win over the South Lafourche Tarpons.
Fournier also was suspended for the entire 2013 season and banned from attending Destrehan games and other events. The LHSAA fined Destrehan $1,000, and Sentilles, Boyne and Luquet, as well as Coach Lance Ledet, were placed on probation for one year. Ledet has not been charged in the investigation.
Boyne, Luquet, Ledet and Sentillies had their Louisiana High School Coaches Association cards revoked. They must also attend LHSAA Handbook Certification classes, and they were suspended for the final two games of the regular season.
