Paralympic gold medalist to speak at ABA meeting

  Oscar “Oz” Sanchez, founder and president of Know No Limits, will share his inspiring life story from drugs and gang life to becoming a Paralympic gold medalist and five-time world champion hand cyclist at an American Bar Association conference on April 9 at the Omni Los Angeles Hotel. 

Sanchez will give the keynote address at 12:30 p.m. during a luncheon at the Commission on Disability Rights’ 4th National Conference on Employment and Education Law Impacting Persons with Disabilities.
During the luncheon, international law firm Perkins Coie LLP and Microsoft Legal and Corporate Affairs Group will receive the commission’s inaugural Champions for Disability Inclusion in the Legal Profession Award for their ongoing commitment to disability diversity.
Paulette Brown, the ABA’s nominee to serve as president-elect for 2014-2015 and a labor and employment law partner and chief diversity officer at Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP, will speak at 8 a.m.
With nearly 54 million Americans with at least one disability, the conference will focus on some of the latest disability rights issues in employment and education law. Representatives from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Justice, Department of Education, Department of Labor and the Los Angeles County Superior Court will discuss issues including reasonable accommodations and unconscious bias in the workplace, discipline and bullying of students with disabilities, and employer screenings for disability.
