Book provides 'guided tour' inside courts

Gaëtan Gerville-Réache, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, is co-editor of the new “Michigan Appellate Handbook.”

Now in its third edition, the new volume provides a “guided tour inside the Michigan appellate courts” and offers insider practice tips and expert advice on strategy and procedure.  Published by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the handbook features chapters on appellate standards of review, motions, appellate and amicus curiae briefs, oral arguments and related issues.

Gerville-Réache, along with three other Warner Norcross Appellate Practice Group attorneys, have contributed chapters to the new book, including:

• “Expediting Review” by Gerville-Réache.

• “Appellate Briefs” by Matthew T. Nelson, co-chair of the firm’s Appellate Practice Group, and Nicole L. Mazzocco.

• “Applications for Leave to Appeal in the Supreme Court” by John J. Bursch, former solicitor general of Michigan who returned to private practice in January and now co-chairs the firm’s Appellate Practice Group.

• “Appeals to Circuit Court,” also by Gerville-Réache.

• “Administrative Appeals,” co-authored by Gerville-Réache.

Michigan attorneys and judges—including four current or former chairs of the State Bar of Michigan’s Appellate Practice Section—contributed chapters to the handbook, which was recently released.

In addition to their work with the “Michigan Appellate Handbook,” Gerville-Réache and Bursch are co-authors of the only appellate practice guide for Michigan published by the American Bar Association, and Gerville- Réache is a contributing author to “Michigan Basic Practice Handbook” from ICLE.
