In the May 31, 2014, “Asked and Answered” feature on grandparents’ rights in light of Porter v. Hill, attorney Jessica Woll was responding to the questions based on the Michigan Supreme Court’s April 23, 2014, ruling, which overturned the earlier Court of Appeals decision. The introduction to the question and answer only mentioned the Court of Appeals ruling.

 

Seminar discusses?‘Managing Religion in the Workplace’

Raising the Bar, an educational series raising employer awareness of current issues in employment and labor law and offered by Detroit-based management side labor and employment law firm Nemeth Law, P.C., returns to discuss new EEOC guidelines for employers to better understand and manage religious accommodations in the workplace. Raising the Bar will be held on Thursday, June 5, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Troy Marriott - 200 W. Big Beaver Rd., Troy. Topics to be covered include: Defining religion according to the EEOC, clarifying what are enforceable grooming policies, dress codes and appearance guidelines, understanding whose responsibility it is when setting flexible work schedules, extra breaks and personal leave, and defining what constitutes notice that accommodation is needed. Continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. The cost of the event is $60 per person and pre-registration is required. Wayne Law Golf Outing June 1
Wayne Law faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to play in the 2014 Wayne Law Golf Outing. The event brings together alumni and friends of the Law School and funds an endowed scholarship to retain the best and brightest students. The event will be Monday, June 2, at the Country Club of Detroit, 220 Country Club Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. 
Registration begins at 11 a.m., lunch at noon and a shotgun start commences at 1 p.m. Cocktail reception and food immediately follow play, including presentation of scholarship to awardee, golfer awards and update from the dean. LAD to conduct free outreach clinic in Ferndale June 13

Legal Aid and Defender Association, Inc. will conduct a free outreach clinic on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties, including the city of Detroit, from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, June 13 at the Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency, 1956 Hilton Road, Ferndale.
