Warner Norcross selects Branch Rickey for One Book, One Firm series
The law firm of Warner Norcross & Judd LLP has chosen “Branch Rickey” by Jimmy Breslin as the 2014 selection for its One Book, One Firm series.
Attorneys and staff from all eight Warner Norcross offices across the state will join in a special lunch-and-learn program on Tuesday, July 9 to discuss the book. The program will focus on the ideals of courage and conviction and will be led by partners at the firm who will share their personal experiences with race and acceptance in America.
The firm has also launched the Diversity Book Club, which offers year-round reading and discussion opportunities of fiction and non-fiction works. Books selected for this series have included “The Zookeeper’s Wife, “Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America” and “How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents.”
Other recommended books for the One Book, One Firm program include:
—The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi Durrow, a novel that focuses on a biracial girl who goes to live with her African-American grandmother
—Passing Strange: A Gilded Age Tale of Love and Deception Across the Color Line by Martha Sandweiss, non-fiction that explores the life of Clarence King, a brilliant African-American scientist who had a secret life as a Pullman porter
—Leap of Faith: Memoirs of an Unexpected Life, the autobiography of Queen Noor, an American who became the queen of Jordan
—Rose Hill: An Intermarriage Before its Time by Carlos Cortes, an autobiography of growing up with a Russian-Jewish Father and a Mexican-Catholic mother
