 Malviya accepted as LCLD Fellow

Raj A. Malviya was accepted into the 2014-2015 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Fellows Program. The program’s goal is to produce a diverse generation of attorneys with strong leadership and relationship skills committed to fostering diversity in their institutions and the legal profession.

The current class of 170+ Fellows began meeting in March. They have extensive contact with LCLD’s top leadership and work with managing partners at leading national law firms as well as the general counsel of some of the country’s largest companies. Each honoree will embark on a learning program that includes experiences with corporations such as General Mills, UnitedHealth Group and Altria Groups as well as Leadership Lunches with leaders in Philadelphia, Seattle, New York, Atlanta and San Francisco. They also meet as a class again in Phoenix and New Orleans.

Malviya’s practice is focused on implementing wealth transfer, asset protection, and tax planning for individuals and families and advising professionals involved in inbound transfers to the United States or outbound transfers overseas on estate and tax planning. He also represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries on trust and estate administration matters. Malviya is a member of Miller Johnson’s estate planning, tax and international law practice groups.

He received his LL.M. in Taxation, with honors, from Northwestern University School of Law, his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law and his B.A. from Hope College. He is a member of the Taxation and RPTE sections of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, and the Society of Trust and Estate Planning Practitioners. Malviya was included as a Super Lawyers Rising Star for Estate Planning and Probate.

Formed in 2009, the LCLD is made up of general counsels of the nation’s preeminent corporations and managing partners of leading law firms. The Fellows Program is one of several initiatives to address the “pipeline”-
encouraging minorities and women to enter the law and helping increase their likelihood of success in law school and beyond.
