Firm earns leadership level in Pro Bono Circle of Excellence

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP has earned a place on the State Bar of Michigan’s inaugural list of firms at the leadership level in its annual Pro Bono Circle of Excellence. Being at the leadership level indicates that Honigman has achieved 100 percent participation at the highest level of the voluntary pro bono standard set by the Bar. Qualifying activities include volunteer legal services for low-income individuals and organizations, and financial contributions to support legal services for those clients.

“Honigman has been recognized by the State Bar for its pro bono work every year since the inception of the Circle of Excellence 10 years ago and we are proud to be an inaugural member of the leadership level,” said Jennifer Belveal, chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee. “Throughout our firm’s 65 year history, we have had a strong commitment to provide services to people who would otherwise be without representation in important legal matters.”

Wayne County Family Law Bar Association golf outing Sept. 19

The Wayne County Family Law Bar Association is kicking off their annual summer charity drive that culminates with a Golf Outing and Dinner for Charity on Sept. 19 at Dearborn Hills Golf Course. This year the named Charities are Growth Works and the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic.

Growth Works is a private, non-profit organization serving youth and families in Western Wayne County since 1971. Since its founding, the agency has continued to design innovative programs to meet the needs and challenges of the community. One of their main programs within Family Services is Supervised Parenting and Visitation services. Trained monitors observe court-ordered supervised parenting time. This program allows the visitation to take place in a supportive and family friendly environment.

The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic provides free legal services to people who live at or below national poverty guidelines.

Contributions to the Charity of your choice can be mailed directly to the WCFLBA Treasurer, Daniel Webster, 535 Griswold St, Detroit, MI 48226 on or before September 19, 2014. Just name the Charity as recipient.

The Golf Outing and Dinner for the charities will be on Friday, Sept. 19 at Dearborn Hills Golf Course, 1300 S Telegraph Rd, Dearborn. Check in will be at 12:30 p.m. and a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the golf and dinner is $125/person and $35/person for dinner only. The cost for a golf hole sponsorship is $100. There are all kinds of fun with prizes, awards, and a mini auction of items donated by some of the judges. To register just call Audrey Stroia at 734-283-2255 for a golf registration or dinner reservation form.
