 The GRBA wants to know who’s got talent

The Grand Rapids Bar Association is kicking off a new fundraising event and wants to see your stuff! “Bar’s Got Talent” will be held at the Muskegon Civic Theatre on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m.

If you’re a juggler, comedian, ventriloquist, acrobat, singer, dancer or have any other unique ability, this is your chance to show the Bar you've got talent.
 
To participate, please complete the form found at http://c.ymcdn.com/sites/grbar.site-ym.com/resource/resmgr/Performer_Sheet_FINAL.pdf by Aug.28 and return it to the GRBA via mail, email, fax, or hand delivery. Be as descriptive as possible to make your act stand out. 
 
Participation Criteria: Acts are limited to four (4) minutes of stage time and are subject to a pre-screening process to ensure an entertaining evening for the audience. This includes requesting further information about your act or for you to audition. 

Both single and group acts are welcome. However, at least one performer in each act MUST be a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Up to four (4) microphones will be provided, but you will be responsible for all other props, costumes, music, and/or other materials required for your performance. In considering your performance, know that you must leave the stage as you found it - CLEAR.

Women’s Commission to survey female veterans

The Michigan Women’s Commission is going to survey women veterans living in Michigan to better understand their needs and the challenges they face. The state is home to over 50,000 women veterans.
The survey will include questions on military service, health status, and use of various veterans’ services. The data, which will be collected anonymously, will be shared with policymakers so they can better meet the women’s needs.
 
“Many Michigan women may not think of themselves as veterans because they may not have served during wartime or in combat-specific roles,” said Susy Avery, Executive Director of the Commission.  “But if a Michigan woman served in the military, she is a veteran and we’d like to hear from her.”

The Commission plans to publish a report on the results in spring 2015.
