Position open with foreclosure prevention corps

Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) in Macomb County has been selected as a Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Host site for the 2014-2015 program year.

The Michigan Foreclosure Prevention Corps, a program of the Community Economic Development Association of Michigan (CEDAM), is seeking AmeriCorps members to join foreclosure counseling agencies in the fight against foreclosure.

“While foreclosure numbers across the country are down, they still remain at historically high levels,” said Jamie Schriner-Hooper, CEDAM executive director. “The need for Michigan homeowners to receive assistance to save their homes from both tax and mortgage foreclosure remains vital. These AmeriCorps members continue to serve our great state and help Michigan homeowners.”

The member will serve full-time at Michigan State University Extension’s housing counseling agency ensuring that at-risk homeowners are aware of resources to help them avoid foreclosure.

The position begins on Oct. 3.

MFPC members work on a variety of foreclosure prevention and intervention activities and help provide intake or triage services for at-risk homeowners.

“MSUE is looking for a dedicated individual who is interested in working with certified housing counselors assisting Macomb County residents in resolving mortgage foreclosure and tax delinquency issues,” said Helena Fleming, Extension educator with MSUE. “This program will give a qualified candidate a great opportunity to assist the community by solving housing issues
while developing professional skills useful for a lifetime.”
