MSHN to run substance use program

In Michigan, about 50 percent of people who suffer from a mental health disorder are also struggling with some form of substance use. For individuals who have Medicaid or Healthy Michigan, help for co-occurring mental health disorders and substance use is managed by Jackson’s local community mental health provider, LifeWays Community Mental Health (CMH). LifeWays CMH is part of a Pre-Paid Inpatient Health Plan (PIHP) called Mid-State Health Network (MSHN), which manages the Medicaid dollars for Jackson County.

Effective October 1, MSHN will function as the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) administrator for the Jackson area.  People currently receiving treatment will continue to be treated by their current providers and local communities will continue to receive financial support for prevention services. LifeWays CMH is an involved member of the Jackson County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (JCSAPC), which focuses on substance abuse prevention in Jackson County. The transition should be seamless for both persons served and community partners and there should be no noticeable changes to the substance use services in our community.
MSHN and LifeWays CMH are committed to improving care for people who cope with mental health and SUD conditions at the same time, with a focus on reducing clinical, regulatory, and financial barriers. MSHN and its Community Mental Health Services Program (CMHSP) partners strive to provide premium behavioral health treatment to its designated residents. MSHN is the PIHP for 21 counties in Michigan. A list of participating counties and CMHSP partners can be found at www.midstatehealthnetwork.org.
For questions about MSHN or their transition to SUD administrator, contact Chief Executive Officer Nancy Miller at nancy.miller@midstatehealthnetwork.org.
The Jackson County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition works to reduce youth and adult substance use/abuse by building community capacity and supporting substance abuse prevention, early intervention and treatment through recovery oriented systems. The vision of JCSAPC is to have a safe and healthy community free of substance abuse. www.drugfreejackson.com.
