Malviya selected for Fellows Program of ABA Real Property, Trust, Estate Law section

Raj A. Malviya of Miller Johnson was selected to serve a two-year term in the Fellows Program instituted by the American Bar Association Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate (RPTE) Law.

The program provides lawyers who specialize in Trusts and Estates the opportunity to become involved in the substantive work of the RPTE Law Section and work closely with national leading practitioners in the field.   The three other Fellows selected for the 2014-2016 class are Toni Ann Kruse, McDermott Will & Emery, New York; Jonathon Lee of Soujourner, Caughman and Thomas, South Carolina; and Chasity Sharp Grice of Sharp Legal Group’s Memphis, TN office.

Malviya’s practice is focused on implementing wealth transfer, asset protection, and tax planning for individuals and families, and advising professionals involved in inbound transfers to the U.S. or outbound transfers overseas on estate and tax planning.  He is a member of Miller Johnson’s estate planning, tax and international law practice groups.

Malviya received his LL.M. in Taxation, with honors, from Northwestern University School of Law, his J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law and his B.A. from Hope College.

He has been recognized for his contributions to the legal profession and his practice areas, including as a Super Lawyers Rising Star for Estate Planning and Probate for 2008-2014, and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Spectrum Health Community Council and the Porter Hills Retirement Community Planned Giving Council.

Malviya is also dedicated to promoting diversity in the legal profession.  He was Co-Founder/Past President of the South Asian Bar Association of Michigan, and Michigan Liaison to the North American South Asian Bar Association. He is an active member of the Network of Indian Professionals Michigan Chapter as well as part of the 2014-2015 Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) Fellows Program.

Additional goals of the ABA RPTE program are to develop future leaders and to enhance knowledge about the work of the Section among young lawyers.
