Wayne Law professor serving in leadership role for ABA publication
Wayne State University Law School Assistant (Clinical) Professor Nick Schroeck has been appointed as “The Year in Review” vice chair for the Water Resources Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources.
The appointment is for 2014-15.
“The Year in Review” is published each year by the Section of Environment, Energy and Resources as a summary of important developments in pertinent law. Topics include air quality, environmental transactions and brownfields, water quality and wetlands, energy infrastructure and siting, oil and gas, and water resources.
Schroeck, a 2007 Wayne Law alumnus who lives in Bloomfield Hills, directs and teaches the law school’s Transnational Environmental Law Clinic. In addition, he is executive director of the nonprofit Great Lakes Environmental Law Center.
Miller Canfield lawyer honored as among top women attorneys
Amy M. Johnston, a principal and deputy leader of Miller and Canfield’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group, has been named one of Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Women in the Law” for 2014.
Each year, the publication honors only 30 Michigan women, not only for professional success, but also for striking a balance that includes giving back to the legal profession. This year’s class was honored at a luncheon hosted on September 11 at the Detroit Marriott in Troy.
Johnston is a commercial litigator who concentrates her practice on the energy and manufacturing industries. For more than 20 years, she has represented companies throughout the country with oil and gas, business, mass tort, product liability and personal injury matters. She cultivates solid relationships with her clients by developing a deep understanding of their businesses and industries so that she can be well-positioned to provide consistent advice and solutions on a broad range of topics.
Johnston is also a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Litigation Counsel of America, The Trial Lawyer Honorary Society. She is former chair and current vice chair of the America Bar Association’s Section of Environment, Energy and Resources Petroleum Marketing Committee; and former president and current Board member of the Catholic Lawyers Society.
Johnston received her J.D., cum laude (1994) from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and her B.G.S. (1990) from the University of Michigan. She lives in Grosse Pointe with her husband, David and their three children.
