 Chief Justice Robert P. Young, Jr. statement on William Whitbeck retirement

Court of Appeals (COA) Judge William C. Whitbeck has announced his retirement, effective Nov. 21.  Elected three times to the COA, Judge Whitbeck has served on the court since 1997, including six years as Chief Judge.  In addition, he served three Michigan governors, starting with George Romney. 

“Bill Whitbeck’s service to Michigan in both the judicial and executive branches of government is a testament to his keen legal intellect, administrative skill and policy-making acumen,” said Chief Justice Robert P. Young, Jr.  “Those qualities combined to help him to make the Court of Appeals worthy of national recognition as a model appellate court while he served as its Chief Judge.” 
 

Duffy joins Miller Johnson’s litigation section

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., October 3, 2014 – Miller Johnson is pleased to welcome Ryan P. Duffy as an Associate in the Grand Rapids office.
Duffy is continuing his litigation practice and is a part of the firm’s health care reimbursement group.  He has three years of experience working in the area of insurance law including coverage, claims and litigation. 
Duffy earned his bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy.  He served for nine years in the Navy as a pilot and flight instructor.  For his efforts flying missions during Operation Iraqi Freedom, he was awarded a Naval Commendation medal.
He earned his Juris Doctorate magna cum laude from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He was on the Board of Editors for the Law Review and received several certificates of merit.  Mr. Duffy was in private practice with another law firm before joining Miller Johnson.  He is a member of the American Bar Association and State Bar of Michigan.
