Milan attorney, Cooley alum dies at 62

 Attorney George Stewart “Stew” Isley of Milan died on October 21, 2014. Born in Detroit on April 16, 1952, to Audrey Vivier and George Gidley Isley, as a youth, Isley was acknowledged as a loveable prankster. He loved Michigan lakes and was waterskiing, snow skiing and playing golf at the age of 10. A football and track star at Arlington High School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., he was popular and well liked. 

  As an undergrad, Isley was active in political campaigns. He worked on and met President Jimmy Carter and was a socially conscious and hardworking student while working at the Michigan State Capital building. 
  Isley graduated from Cooley Law School in 1980 and began his 34-year career as an attorney. Serving those less fortunate than himself, he often accepted curious items for payment or no payment at all. The family moved to Milan in 1995 and Isley accepted the position of the city’s prosecuting attorney. He saw potential in the youth and showed compassion in the courtroom. He was well respected in the legal community. 
  Isley is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Susan Isley Lafko. He is survived by his loving wife Dena; children Robert Isley (Cassie), Katherine Isley and George Isley; and sisters Margaret Denman (John) and Jean Cazorla (Chris). 
  A celebration of life is planned at the American Legion, 44 Wabash Street, Milan, 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. There will be military honors promptly at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to the George Isley college fund at Chase Bank in Milan.
