Attorney speaks on importance of pro bono service

On Monday, Nov. 3, Susan Kornfield, of the Ann Arbor office of Bodman PLC, was the keynote speaker at WMU-Cooley Law School Lansing campus’ Integrity in Our Communities Speaker Series. Kornfield, the recipient of the 2014 State Bar of Michigan John W. Cummiskey Pro Bono Award, spoke to students, faculty and those in the legal profession regarding the importance for attorneys to be involved in their communities and provide pro bono services to individuals who are less fortunate.

Kornfield received this year’s Cummiskey Pro Bono Award for providing 10,000 hours of pro bono service for the homeless and other less fortunate individuals. She serves on the ACLU of Michigan Lawyers Committee and is chair of Bodman PLC’s pro bono program, which has received state and national recognition.
Each term, WMU-Cooley’s Integrity in Our Communities Speaker Series offers individuals the opportunity to hear from attorneys, judges, and dedicated professionals who share their experiences on the topics of ethics, service, or professionalism. Bodman’s presentation was presented in collaboration with WMU-Cooley’s Career and Professional Development department and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.
