3 Jaffe attorneys among Top Lawyers

 Three Ann Arbor attorneys from Southfield-based Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, P.C. were among 23 of the firm’s members selected as Top Lawyers for 2015 by DBusiness magazine. Jaffe CEO Bill Sider proudly made the announcement. Published annually, DBusiness’ Top Lawyers list is a comprehensive ranking of attorneys from across southeastern Michigan. The award is based on a peer-reviewed survey, sent to thousands of attorneys from Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties this past summer.

The Ann Arbor attorneys are Lawrence R. Jordan, Copyright Law, Entertainment Law - Motion Pictures and Television, Litigation - Intellectual Property, Technology Law, Trademark Law; Diana Raimi, Family Law; and Peter Sugar, Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law, Securities / Capital Markets Law, Securities Regulation.
Jordan, an alumnus of the University of Michigan, and graduate of Wayne State University Law School, is the Practice Group Coordinator of the Intellectual Property Practice Group, and managing partner of the office on West William St. in Ann Arbor. He has substantial experience in intellectual property, information technology, Internet, domain name, technology transfer, biotech, publishing and entertainment law. His experience includes transactional work, as well as litigation, arbitration and mediation.
He is a past co-chair of the Intellectual Property Section of Washtenaw County Bar; past chair of the State Bar of Michigan Computer Law Section; past chair of the State Bar of Michigan Arts, Communications, Entertainment and Sports Section and a current Member of its Council; a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association; and a lifetime member of The Fellows of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. He also is a lifetime member of Friends of the Ann Arbor Library. 
Raimi, another U-M grad and a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California, is a partner in the Ann Arbor office. In practice since 1978, she practices primarily in the area of domestic relations law, including pre- and post-nuptial agreements, divorce, property division, custody and support proceedings. She is a trained mediator and serves as a mediator and arbitrator as well as undertaking traditional client representation. Her background as a business attorney provides her with special expertise in property division and financial matters in high-asset divorce cases.
Raimi is a respected author and frequent speaker at continuing education seminars in the field of family law, and has assisted with curriculum design and planning for the statewide Family Law Certificate Program, among many other educational programs. She is author of the Property Settlement chapter of Michigan Family Law (ICLE, 3rd -6th ed), frequently cited by attorneys, trial courts and the Court of Appeals.
Sugar, a partner in the Southfield and Ann Arbor offices, earned his undergrad degree from Wayne State University and is a cum laude graduate from Wayne State University Law School, where he served as articles and managing editor of the Wayne Law Review. He is a member of the Securities Regulation, Acquisitions and Divestitures, Emerging Business, and Corporate Practice Groups, specializing in securities regulation, corporate finance, and mergers and acquisitions.
He represents clients in both private and public securities offerings, exchange offers, refinancings, private debt, mez and equity placements, as well as public companies in all aspects of 1933 Act, 1934 Act and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance matters. He represents directors of public corporations individually and in their capacities as members of Audit Committees, Disclosure Committees and other Special Committees. He has an active practice in the acquisition and disposition of businesses and has led M & A teams in multiple sales of venture-backed businesses that have become finalists and winners of Crain's Business Deal of the Year awards. He is also involved in all aspects of the formation, financing and governance of businesses, including equity, debt and hybrid capitalization transactions; and has assisted several businesses in financing their start-up all the way through IPO.
