In observance of Thanksgiving, the 36th District Court will be closed today. Felony arraignment hearings will be held at 34th District Court in Romulus. The court will reopen on Monday, Dec. 1.

The WLAM-Wayne Region will hold you to their holiday community service event on December 2, 2014, at the Ronald McDonald House in downtown Detroit by hosting a dinner for the families staying at the House during the holidays. ABA releases Magna Carta book to mark 800th anniversary

A distinguished international group of scholars is marking the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta with an exploration of its background and the profound impact it has had in establishing the supremacy of the law in ongoing constitutional, democratic societies.
 
Magna Carta and the Rule of Law, published by the American Bar Association, offers unique insight into the legacy of Magna Carta. The document, sealed in 2015, is widely recognized as the foundation for the modern concept of executive accountability and the rule of law that has evolved over centuries, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom and its Commonwealth countries.

The book takes a fresh look at Magna Carta and examines its impact on U.S. institutions, such as the U.S. Supreme Court and presidential power. It also explores Magna Carta’s continuing influence on individual rights, international law and freedom of religion, among other areas.

The authors are Daniel Barstow Magraw, a senior fellow and professional lecturer at the institute and president emeritus of its Center for International Environmental Law; Andrea Martinez, an associate with the International Justice Initiative at the Foreign Policy Institute at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies; and Roy E. Brownell II, an attorney with expertise in constitutional law, defense and national security, and public law.
The book’s foreword was written by former U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
