 2014 FBA New Lawyers Seminar set for Dec. 9

The Federal Bar Association will offer on Dec. 9 its annual Seminar for New Lawyers, a “nuts and bolts” how-to-do-it approach to practice in federal and state courts which is co-sponsored by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. The seminar, at the Theodore Levin Courthouse in Detroit, is designed to assist recent law graduates in understanding the fundamental procedures followed in local courts. The seminar begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and presentations on federal courts. The program continues on Dec. 10 with state court practice. Reservation checks should be made payable to the FBA E.D. Wolverine and Straker Bars team up for holiday party Dec. 17

The Wolverine Bar association and D. Augustus Straker Bar Association will co-host a holiday party on Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Centaur, 2233 Park Avenue (behind the Fox Theatre) in Detroit. Cost is $15 for law students, $25 for members, and $35 for non-members.  Cash or checks will be accepted at the door. USAO and FBA to present program on Civil Rights Act of 1964

The United States Attorney’s Office & The Social Justice Committee of the Federal Bar Association will present “Celebrating the Civil Rights Act of 1964”?on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 115 at the Theodore Levin U.S. Courthouse, 231 W. Lafayette in Detroit.  The program will present a panel featuring: Mark Fancher – Racial Justice Project attorney, ACLU of Michigan; Jocelyn Benson – dean of the Wayne State University Law School; Heidi Budaj – regional director, Anti-Defamation League; Fatina Abdrabboh – Michigan Director, American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.  U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade, Eastern District of Michigan, will moderate the panel. This is a free brown-bag affair and attendees are invited to bring a lunch.
 

Tribute dinner to honor Judge Rhodes Dec. 11

A Tribute Dinner honoring Judge Steven W. Rhodes for his twenty-nine year career as a bankruptcy judge for the U.S Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Michigan, will be hosted on Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Roostertail, 100 Marquette Drive in Detroit.  Cocktails with cash bar begin at 5:30 p.m. with dinner to follow.   Registration is requested by Monday, Nov. 24.  Contact David Lerner at 248-901-4010 or dlerner@plunkettcooney.com with any questions, or obtain registration information online at http://www.cbadetroit.com.
