Prior to joining Warner Norcross, Dugan practiced as a trial and appellate law attorney for Varnum, LLP. He has also served as a law clerk for then-Judge Samuel A. Alito, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, before Alito was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Dugan also served as counsel for Bancroft, PLLC, where he worked with Paul Clement, who was the 43rd solicitor general of the United States. He has also served as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Civil Rights Division’s Appellate Section and a special assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Active professionally, Dugan serves on the Appellate Practice Section Council of the State Bar of Michigan. He is a member of the D.C. Bar and the U.S. Supreme Court Bar. Dugan serves on the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel board and as treasurer of Catholic Lawyers Association of West Michigan.
He serves on the programming committee of Catholic Charities West Michigan and on the board of the Notre Dame Club of Grand Rapids. He also writes a monthly column for Bridge Magazine.
Dugan holds his juris doctorate magna cum laude from University of Notre Dame Law School where he was on the Notre Dame Law Review and a bachelor’s cum laude in government from Dartmouth College.
Dugan currently resides in East Grand Rapids with his wife, Laurel, and their four children.
