 Appellete Court e-filing goes live in January

The Michigan Supreme Court (MSC) and the Michigan Court of Appeals (COA) has announced that their new e-filing system will go live in January. The system, authorized by MSC Administrative Order 2014-23, will be available in the MSC beginning Jan. 5, 2015, and in the COA beginning Jan. 20, 2015.

“This initiative builds on our tradition of providing outstanding service to the public and reflects our commitment to implementing technology to work smarter,” said MSC Chief Clerk Larry Royster.
In particular, Royster noted that MSC operations will become more efficient because of reductions in resources needed to receive and manage paper files; customers will be able to file anytime, anywhere (24 hours a day, seven days a week) with a single username and password.
 
The system is designed to maximize ease of use for e-filers, whether they are attorneys or self-represented litigants. E-filers can access online training materials.

Initially, e-filing will be voluntary for filers in all case types, but the MSC and COA anticipate that e-filing will eventually become mandatory. The experience gained from this voluntary program will help determine future parameters.
 

Rhoades McKee welcomes Appleman

Rhoades McKee announces Jackie M. Appleman has joined the firm as a litigation associate.
 
Appleman interned with the firm in 2012 and 2013 as a Grand Rapids Bar Association (GRBA) and Floyd Skinner Bar Minority Clerkship Program participant.   This program is designed to increase the number of minority law students accepting future legal positions in Grand Rapids.

“As a long term participant in the GRBA/Floyd Skinner clerkship program, we have seen again and again the benefits of adding to our diversity. Jackie is a terrific example of someone who is not only destined to become a great lawyer but enriches our practice with her presence,” stated Mark R. Smith, Vice President of Associate Development.  

Prior to and during law school, she gained valuable experience as a legal research assistant for the University of Iowa, a legal intern for the Iowa State Public Defender’s Office, and an intern at American Red Cross of Washtenaw County.

Appleman is a recent graduate from University of Iowa College of Law. She earned her bachelors from University of Michigan.
