Hundreds of people from the West Michigan legal community came out to the County Courthouse last Thursday to wish James Robert Redford well as he answers his next call to service.
Redford, who is at left in the photo with Judge Robert Jonker of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan at right, was appointed Chief Legal Counsel by Governor Rick Snyder. As reported in the Jan. 7 Grand Rapids Legal News, this is just the next phase in a lifetime of public service for Redford.
From a long career in the navy JAG?Corps to his most recent position as a judge in the 17th Circuit Court to his recent run for the Michigan Supreme Court, Redford has served his local community and the broader community, and will continue to do so.
At the lunchtime reception, cake and cookies were served to a group of well-wishers from a broad range of backgrounds and political sympathies. Two of Redford’s three grown children were in attendance.
Redford has recently attended many a meeting in preparation for his new position, in which he will serve not only the governor but the entire executive branch of Michigan government.
