Gwyne Thomas and Demar Sheffey, members of the Black Law Students Association at WMU-Cooley Law School’s Grand Rapids campus, had the opportunity recently to meet with Frederick D. McClure, CEO of the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library Foundation. McClure’s visit to Grand Rapids was part of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation’s Black History Month Celebrations.

McClure began his career in public service as an intern in President Ford’s administration. After serving in Ford’s administration, McClure served as a special assistant in congressional relations for President Ronald Reagan. He later went on to serve as an assistant for legislative affairs for President George H.W. Bush. Following his career in the White House, McClure became managing partner for the international law firm, Dentons US, LLP.
Before meeting privately with Thomas and Sheffey, McClure presented “The Presidency, Politics and Public Service” at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. McClure noted, “I started my career under President Ford’s administration many years ago; I’m thrilled to come to West Michigan and share my story.”
