“Women in the Judiciary” will be the topic of the Thursday, March 12, installment of Wayne State University Law School’s Alumni Speaker Series.
Four alumnae, all judges, will share their expertise from 12:15- 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St.
Retired Michigan Supreme Court Justice Marilyn Kelly, a 1971 Wayne Law alumna and distinguished jurist in residence at the law school, will moderate the panel.
Panelists who will share their experiences and advice are:
• Oakland County Circuit Judge Mary Ellen Brennan, class of 1990. She is the presiding judge in the Juvenile Drug Court.
Brennan has been with the circuit court since her election in 2008 and was judicial staff attorney for 44th District Court from 2002 to 2008.
• Wayne County Circuit Judge Megan Maher Brennan, class of 1987. Brennan was appointed to the court in 2005 and elected thereafter.
During her 10 years on the bench, Brennan has served in both the Juvenile and Domestic Relations sections of the Family Division and serves now in the Criminal Division.
• Oakland County Circuit Chief Judge Nanci Grant, class of 1989. She first was elected to the court in 1996.
Grant was appointed chief judge in 2010. She is the founding judge of the Combat Veterans Court.
• 36th District Judge Donna Robinson Milhouse, class of 1984. She first was elected to the court in 2000.
Milhouse was the 2008 president of the Michigan District Judges Association after having served as the association’s treasurer, secretary, vice president and president-elect.
The Alumni Speaker Series is a part of Wayne Law’s efforts to link alumni with students and build professional connections.
The March 12 is free and lunch will be provided.
