Ex-U.S. Sen. Levin to join Detroit law firm as senior counsel
DETROIT (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Carl Levin will join a Detroit law firm as senior counsel and advise businesses on government investigations.

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP announced Monday the 80-year-old Michigan Democrat plans to take the post in April. The focus of Levin’s work will “include aiding corporations with internal investigations and crisis management; assisting corporations with social responsibility and compliance issues; and facilitating alternative dispute resolutions and mediations.”

Levin also will serve as an adviser to the firm’s Government Relations and Regulatory Practice Group.

In a statement, Levin says he and the firm “have many shared values, from our long-standing support of Detroit to our dedication to assisting Michigan businesses.”

Levin led investigations into major companies as a senator. He declined to seek re-election after 36 years in Washington.

Cooley Law School holds open house for prospective students

WMU-Cooley Law School’s Auburn Hills campus will host an open house for prospective students and their guests noon-2 p.m. on March 23. The open house will include a question and answer panel with students and alumni, a discussion with the dean and faculty, information about academic programs and scholarships, and campus tours.

 “This open house allows all individuals an opportunity to see how a legal education can help achieve personal and career goals,”  said Joan Vestrand, WMU-Cooley associate dean. “Attendees can experience what Cooley has to offer in a very casual setting.”

LAD to conduct free outreach clinic Wed. at Detroit Veterans Center

Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc. (LAD) will conduct a free outreach clinic on civil legal services for income-eligible residents of Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties, including the city of Detroit, on Wednesday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to noon at Detroit Veterans Center, 2770 Park Ave. Attendees are asked to register before 10 a.m. as a LAD attorney will assist only those persons who have done so by that time.
