LANSING (AP) — Michigan is receiving more than $5.5 million in grant funding for providing rental housing assistance to extremely-low income people with disabilities.
The grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was announced last Friday.
“These grants will give those who are capable of living on their own the chance to build a home for themselves and their families, ultimately leading to a higher quality of life,” said Lt. Gov. Brian Calley.
The grant is aimed at providing rental assistance to help prevent institutionalization or homelessness.
The funding will be administered by the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, which will work with the state’s Department of Community Health to identify eligible people.
Michigan was one of 25 states selected to receive such funding.
