Resolution Center offers training

The Dispute Resolution Center of West Michigan offers two types of mediation training.

Those who wish to be volunteers must complete a general civil or domestic training course and a hands-on internship.

Those wanting to be a court-approved mediator  must complete either general civil mediation training or domestic mediation training, depending on the types of cases preferred. Michigan Court Rule 3.216 explains that eligible training participants include licensed attorneys and those with degrees and experience in counseling and marriage and family therapy.

The Dispute Resolution Center is offering the following training sessions:

—“My 10 Biggest Mistakes as a Mediator,” April 21 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., River Room, 678 Front Ave. NW. $30.

—48-hour Domestic Relations Mediator Training (includes 8-hour Domestic Violence Screening Protocol), April 24-25; April 27-29; May 11 at the Kent County Courthouse, 180 Ottawa Ave. NW. $750.

—8-hour SCAO-approved Advanced Mediator Training “Taking your mediation skills to the next level,”  Thursday, May 7 from 8-5 p.m. at the River Room, 678 Front Ave. NW. $195.

Resolution Services Center of Central Michigan is also offering a Domestic Mediation Training, featuring Zena Zumeta, internationally known mediator and trainer with over 30 years of experience, on June 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20. Training will be held at Country Inn & Suites, 6511 Centurion Drive, Lansing from 8:30-5:30.

The training is interactive and each trainee receives individual attention and feedback from Zumeta, along with comprehensive mediation and domestic violence training manuals.

Additional training opportunities may be found through the Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).
