Christensen Law - a personal injury law firm specializing in helping victims of automobile and truck accidents - has expanded its Southfield practice by opening an office at 3049 Miller Road in Ann Arbor.
"I raised my family in Ann Arbor, and have lived here for 32 years," said founder David Christensen. "I earned a master's degree and a law degree from the University of Michigan, and was chairman of the board of Ann Arbor's HelpSource Agency."
After more than 20 years representing vehicle accident victims and establishing a strong reputation as a successful trial lawyer, Christensen opened Christensen Law in 2014 and celebrated the firm's first anniversary in March.
Before opening Christensen Law, he helped build a large auto accident law firm in Farmington Hills over 22 years, but left to open his new office so he could be more personally involved with clients and their families.
"My injured and disabled clients are usually experiencing the worst times of their lives," Christensen said. "I love being able to help them get through these times, to get their new lives on the right path and safeguard their futures. A small firm environment gives us the intimacy to really get to know our clients, and give them the very best service that just isn't possible in a large law firm."
Christensen Law represents victims of truck and auto accidents, boat accidents, electrical injury, sexual assault and other serious injury and death cases. Christensen Law is a trial law firm, trying five cases in the past year - a large number for this type of firm. "When the insurance companies know you actually go to trial, their respect for your cases grows exponentially," Christensen says.
One recent case involved a woman whose car was rear ended by a cement truck and driven into a utility pole. As a result, she had three spinal fusion back surgeries, a hip fusion and shoulder surgery and suffered a significant traumatic brain injury. She is no longer able to work or live independently. Christensen won a $17.8 million jury award to take care of her and safeguard her future - the largest Michigan jury verdict for an injury case in many years.
"I try to put myself in the place of my clients," said Christensen. "It helps me understand their anxiety, their pain and their needs so I can best help them."
Christensen has served as the Chairman of the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Law Section; and serves as the Vice President of the Michigan Association for Justice, which represents all trial lawyers in Michigan. He is Chairman of the MAJ's no-fault committee, past chairman of the negligence section of the Michigan State Bar, and is a member of the Council of Chief Justices on Civil Justice. He regularly testifies before the Michigan legislature, and his expertise has led to appointments to key positions that affect the development of Michigan's no-fault law. In 2012, he was chosen as a "Leader in the Law" by Michigan Lawyer's Weekly.
