Macomb County Circuit Court Chief Judge John Foster has appointed Thomas Blohm as the new administrator of Macomb County Friend of the Court.
The position had been vacant since January due to the retirement of former administrator Lynn Davidson, who served in the role for 14 years out of her 45 years of service with the court.
The Friend of the Court (FOC) is the division of the court that is responsible for assisting the court’s Family Division.
The FOC provides enforcement of court orders relating to child support, health care, spousal support, parenting time and custody issues.
Additionally, the FOC investigates, evaluates and submits recommendations to the bench regarding any contested domestic relations matters.
The Macomb County FOC has 106 employees and an annual budget of more than $13 million.
Blohm has worked for the Macomb County Friend of the Court for 31 years, having started as a support investigator in 1984 and then being promoted to the role of judicial service officer within a year.
In 2000, Blohm was appointed by then-Chief Judge Peter Maceroni as the enforcement division director for the FOC and has served in that capacity for the last 15 years.
Blohm is a graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in criminal justice. He has been actively involved in statewide workgroups charting the future direction for child support programs.
Blohm has implemented outreach programs and partnerships with employment services and has always been a strong proponent of effective customer service in the Friend of the Court.
“I have known Tom throughout my career here as a judge and have the utmost respect for Tom’s knowledge and abilities,” said Foster. “He has worked hard throughout his 31 years of service and has more than earned this position.”
Court Administrator Jennifer Phillips said Blohm “has a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience in the Friend of the Court.”
“However, what sets him apart is his strong work ethic, professionalism and interpersonal skills,” Phillips said. “Tom is very supportive of the Friend of the Court staff and passionate about providing the highest level of customer service to all court patrons.”
