Judge Halloran to lead training program at national conference
Wayne County Circuit Judge Richard Halloran will be serving as a seminar discussion leader for the training program Enhancing Judicial Skills in Domestic Violence Cases Workshop. This training is offered by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges in partnership with Futures Without Violence and the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. The judge will be sharing knowledge from his twenty-three years’ experience in working to prevent domestic violence.
The four-day training offers hands-on, highly interactive workshops that provide an essential foundation for new and experienced state, tribal and territorial judges and judicial officers to enhance their skills in handling civil and criminal domestic violence cases. Judicial participants will leave the workshop with greater knowledge and skills for handling cases involving domestic violence.

Drug charge dropped in police beating case
DETROIT (AP) — A judge has dismissed a drug charge against a man who was repeatedly punched by a Detroit-area police officer during a violent arrest.
Judge David Groner granted the request of prosecutors Wednesday, two days after fired Inkster Officer William Melendez was charged with assault in the January traffic stop.
Prosecutors had promised to drop the drug charge. Floyd Dent says he now plans to “get some sleep.” He claims the cocaine was planted by officers during the arrest.
Dent’s head and shirt were bloody after he was pulled from his car and struck by Melendez. The arrest was recorded on police video, but the video was unknown to the public until a TV station
aired it in March.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy said she was unaware of it.
During alternative spring break, MSU Law students help people
Students from MSU Law's Alvin L. Storrs Low-Income Taxpayer's Clinic gave more than 40 service hours to help 120 people during their Alternative Spring Break – Help 100 Campaign.
A total of 11 students raised more than $3,000 to fund the project that offered services to individuals and families in Jackson, Clare, Fremont and Grand Haven, Michigan. Service dates included two weekends in February and March 7-11.
