Two veteran Varnum attorneys will serve on a committee that is part of the State Bar of Michigan's effort to ensure that the state's legal profession is prepared for the challenges of the 21st century.
John W. Allen and Carl E. Ver Beek will serve on the committee for Modernizing the Regulatory Machinery, part of the SBM's 21st Century Task Force. The committee will focus on legal education, certification for lawyers, alternative business for law firms, and building economic resilience and capacity for the improvement of delivery of legal services.
The committee, co-chaired by Michigan Supreme Court Justice Hon. Mary Beth Kelly and MSU Law Professor Renee Newman Knake, includes 20 other attorneys from across the state.
Both Allen and Ver Beek have extensive records of service to the legal profession, holding leadership positions for various national and local bar associations. Both are experienced presenters for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE).
Allen is a trial lawyer, focusing his practice on business and commercial litigation, and on select family law matters. Ver Beek's practice focuses on various aspects of labor and employment relations and dispute resolution.
