Walk for Justice

On Saturday, May 30, the third annual “Walk for Justice” took place at the Detroit Zoo in support of the Salvation Army’s William Booth Legal Aid Clinic (WBLAC). ?Getting ready to hit the trail to raise funds for the clinic were (l-r) Royal Oak attorney Richard Halprin, retired Judge Fred Mester, Dave Mester, WBLAC Director Amy Roemer, Rochester Hills attorney Doug Kolly, and Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Denise Langford Morris. The WBLAC was founded in 1994 by Robert and Ellen Dickman with the goal of paving the way to fresh starts and new opportunities for those struggling with addiction. In addition to assisting those participating in the Salvation Army treatment programs, the clinic expanded its mission to provide quality legal services to low income individuals, families, and U.S. military veterans in the community. The WBLAC is affiliated with the Metro Detroit law schools offering practical experience opportunities including internships, externships, and work-study programs. To date, the clinic has mentored 168 students who have volunteered nearly 19,000 hours.
