Monday Profile: David Meyers

David Meyers grew up on his family's dairy farm in Sanilac County. He earned an undergraduate degree from Loyola University Chicago in 2002, followed by his juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law in 2005.

After a brief stint on Michigan's west side, he became an associate with McGinty, Hitch, Housefield, Person, Yeadon & Anderson, P.C. where he specializes in municipal law while gaining experience in a number of practice areas. David

He was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in 2005 and the U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan in 2012.

Meyers is a member of the State Bar of Michigan (Member, Criminal Law Section, Young Lawyers Section).

He and his wife, Rebecca, have two children and enjoy an active lifestyle, and particularly enjoy spending time at their cottage in Lexington.

What is your most treasured material possession? My 2006 third place 3-on-3 basketball trophy.

What advice do you have for someone considering law school? Shadow an attorney or intern at a law firm to make sure the area of law is really a passion and not just a career choice.

What is your happiest childhood memory? Most anything that dealt with summertime on the farm, unless it was mowing hay.

What would surprise people about your job? The amount of phone calls and e-mails that I have to respond to every day.

What is your most typical mood? Mindful.

How do you define success? Contentment.

Who is on your guest list for the ideal dinner party? Bernie Sanders, Oprah Winfrey, Sam Harris, Barack Obama, and Jon Stewart.

Why did you become a lawyer? I went on a "Law and Order" binge one weekend and woke up as a 1L.

If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would that be? My 16-month-old son.

What's the most awe-inspiring place you've ever been? The bed of a pick-up on a starry night in the country.

How did you earn your first dollar? Not positive, but it probably had something to do with manure.

What do you do to relax? Meditation and yoga.

How would you describe your home? My favorite place to be-most of the time.

What word do you overuse? "Literally."

What is one thing you would like to learn to do? Play guitar.

What is something most people don't know about you? I meditate and do yoga.

What is the best advice you ever received? Know thyself.

If you can help it, where will you never return? New York City.

What do you drive? Ford Escape Hybrid.

What would you drive if money were no object? Tesla S P85D.

What is your motto? There is no path to happiness, happiness is the path.
