Wayne County Family Law Bar Association to host charity drive

The Wayne County Family Law Bar Association is kicking off its annual summer charity drive that culminates with a Golf Outing and Dinner for Charity on September 18 at Dearborn Hills Golf Course. This year the named charities are Growth Works and the William Booth Legal Aid Clinic.

Growth Works is a private, non-profit organization serving youth and families in Western Wayne County since 1971. Since its founding, the agency has continued to design innovative programs to meet the needs and challenges of the community. One of its main programs within Family Services is Supervised Parenting and Visitation services. Trained monitors observe court-ordered supervised parenting time.

This program allows the visitation to take place in a supportive and family friendly environment. The child is never left alone with the visiting parent, and the monitor assures that rules and limits for contact and interaction are followed. In most cases supervised parenting is ordered by a family court. However families may participate voluntarily if both parents agree.

The William Booth Legal Aid Clinic provides free legal services to people who live at or below national poverty guidelines. It handles mostly family law and landlord/tenant issues. The Clinic focuses on domestic relations and family law, landlord-tenant relations, employment and workplace law, and how to choose a lawyer.

Contributions to the charity of your choice can be mailed directly to the WCFLBA President, Carla Testani, 33900 Schoolcraft Road, Livonia, MI, 48154 on or before September 18. Just name the charity as recipient.

More than 100 guests attended the 2014 event enjoying golf, dinner, and prizes. Pictures of the 2014 event and attendees are posted at http://www.waynefamilylawbar.org/
Check in for the golf outing will be at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. The cost for the golf and dinner is $125/person and $35/person for dinner only. The cost for a golf hole sponsorship is $100. To register, call Audrey Stroia at 734-283-2255 for a golf registration or dinner reservation form.

RESTORE to hold version of ‘Voice’ event on June 24

Attorneys from three area law firms will test their vocal skills at a fund-raiser to benefit The RESTORE Foundation on Wednesday, June 24 at the Iroquois Club on Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills.

Patterned after the hit TV series, “The Voice,” the event will feature the singing talents of Jan Peronis of Hertz Schram, Rosemarie Wilson of Miller Canfield, and Bill Urich of Urich Law, each of whom will vie for top honors from a panel of celebrity judges.

The event runs from 5:30-8 p.m. with appetizers and a cash bar. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Adult and Juvenile Oakland County Drug Treatment Courts, according to retired Judge Edward Sosnick, president of RESTORE. Tickets cost $60 and can be purchased online at therestorefoundation.org or at the door.

For more information, call Judge Sosnick at (248) 335-5000.
