Padnos named Koeze Business Ethics Fellow
Jeffrey S. Padnos, president of PADNOS, Inc., will - for the second year - serve as the Koeze Business Ethics Initiative Business Ethics Fellow.
A program within Grand Valley State University Seidman College of Business, the Koeze Business Ethics Initiative (KBEI) is a leading resource for businesspeople, students, faculty and administrators who seek to understand the relationship between business, the common good and a life well-lived. Each year, a KBEI Business Ethics Fellow is named to serve as a resource and share lessons learned over the course of a successful career in business.
Padnos, who returned to Holland in 1979 to join his family’s scrap metal recycling business, became president in 1988. Since then, the business has grown grown to 20 locations from just two with over 500 employees. Before that, Padnos spent two years with New York City Environmental Protection Admin-istration. He holds a B.A. and MBA from Harvard University.
“We are pleased to have Jeff continue his tenure as the KBEI Business Ethics Fellow,” said Michael DeWilde, KBEI director and associate professor of philosophy. “PADNOS is well-known and respected in its industry and the community for adhering to a strong set of values. We look forward to the insights he will bring to our students, faculty and staff.”
In his role as fellow, Padnos will visit MBA classes at least three times a year to facilitate discussions on how businesses create and sustain their values, not just their value; on ethical dilemmas; and on the use of profits to serve both company and community goals. He will also attend luncheon with Seidman faculty to discuss what topics business students should be taught.
