Ackert appointed to Kent County Probate Court

Gov. Rick Snyder has announced the appointment of Terence “T.J.” Ackert, of Grand Rapids, to the Kent County Probate Court. He fills the vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Jay Quist to the 17th Circuit Court.

“TJ has a wealth of knowledge in complex legal matters that have prepared him for the complexities he will face on the bench,” Snyder said. “I am confident that his legal skill, compassion and commitment to his community will serve the residents of Kent County well in this new position.”

Ackert has been with the law firm of Miller, Johnson, Snell & Cummiskey PLC, since 2007.  He began his career in 1984 at Smith, Haughey, Rice & Roegge, PC, with a practice of general litigation, including business related litigation, dispute resolution and insurance defense.

Ackert has been involved in numerous community organizations, including the Family Business Alliance, the Economic Club of Grand Rapids, and the Government Affairs Committee of the Associated Builders and Contractors. He is a recent past president of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.

Ackert earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Michigan and a degree from the University of Toledo College of Law. He will stand for election in 2016 for a full six-year term.
