Foster Swift Attorney Nichole Derks was re-appointed co-chair on the 2015-16 SBM Criminal Jurisprudence and Practice Committee, the largest standing committee of the State Bar, with a primary duty to review proposed court rules and statutes related to criminal procedure and practice in state courts. From here recommendations are made concerning improvements in the operation of criminal law and procedures.
Derks has enjoyed serving on this committee and was honored to be re-appointed. "We tackle all of the cutting edge issues in criminal law which allows me to better serve my clients as I am well abreast of all developments and trends in the law," she said.
Derks joined Foster Swift in 2009 as a member of the General Litigation Group. Formerly an associate at the Reynolds Law Firm, she accompanied Reynolds when he moved to Foster Swift. Her practice focuses in the areas of criminal defense, domestic relations, family law and criminal prosecution for municipalities. She also assists with USCIS applications and matters before the U.S. Immigration Court.
Born in Zeeland in West Michigan, Derks majored in Criminology and Political Science at Ohio State University and received her juris doctorate from Michigan State University College of Law.
