The Vanzetti Hamilton Bar Association was founded in 1991 to commemorate one of the premiere attorneys in the field of law, Vanzetti Hamilton. Hamilton was committed to equalizing access, treatment and opportunity in the legal system while addressing the special needs of people of color, women and other disenfranchised groups. Hamilton was instrumental in helping to desegregate the Willow Run School System. He served as chairman of the Ypsilanti Human Relations Commission and founded one of the first African American owned law firms in Washtenaw County in 1959.
