Nick Gable was born and raised in Ann Arbor.
He is an attorney at Legal Services of South Central Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he assists the low-income and elderly in landlord-tenant, foreclosure, public benefits, consumer, and family law cases.
Gable earned his undergrad degree from the University of Michigan, and his J.D. from the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in Bloomington.
He spent a semester of law school studying French and international law at the Université Panthéon-Assas (Paris II) in Paris.
Apart from his legal career, Gable enjoys participating in amateur boxing, and has continued to pursue his interest in music. He has performed professionally as a classical pianist for the past four years and recently performed Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto with the Grosse Pointe Symphony Orchestra.

What is something most people don't know about you? At one point, I could read Hittite (in the cuneiform), and I still enjoy reading the Greek and Latin classics in the original. Also, I was a University Musical Society (UMS) Artist in Residence this year.
What is your most treasured material possession? My books and piano.
What advice do you have for someone considering law school? Have a good idea of why you want to be a lawyer.
Why did you become a lawyer? To practice some sort of public interest law.
What is your most typical mood? Focused.
Who is on your guest list for the ideal dinner party? Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Charles Dickens, Marcel Proust, Kristen Yarows…there are too many to name.
If you could trade places with someone for a day, who would that be? Vladimir Ashkenazy.
What’s the most awe-inspiring place you’ve ever been? Paris. I was lucky enough to live and study there for four months in 2013.
What is your proudest moment as a lawyer? Helping two clients save their home in a recent case.
How did you earn your first dollar? Mowing lawns, and I was a garbage man as an undergrad at U-M.
Who inspires you, and why? So many people inspire me in different ways. It would be impossible to name just a few.
Do you have spiritual beliefs? No.
What do you do to relax? I box 4-5 days a week at the A-Square Fight Club. I also perform as a pianist—I performed Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto last fall and will be playing his third concerto next year or the year after.
What is one thing you would like to learn to do? Conduct an orchestra.
If you can help it, where will you never return? Taco Bell.
What would you drive if money were no object? I wouldn’t drive at all.
Favorite place to spend money: Concerts — especially at Hill Auditorium — traveling, and boxing shows.
What is the best advice you ever received? Enjoy the struggle and don’t worry about the result.
