ROCHESTER (AP) — Law enforcement officials in Michigan plan stepped-up drunken driving patrols through Labor Day.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning says patrols started last Friday and run through Sept. 7 across the state as part of the annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
State police, sheriff’s departments and local agencies all are involved.
The period includes the time when students move in at many Michigan colleges and universities.
Ads targeting college students include checkboxes, urging people to: “Put a sober driver on your list.”
Officials are adding an extra warning about underage drinking.
For those under 21, a promotion for the campaign says “get yourself a pop.”
Patrols also will look for motorists who aren’t using seatbelts.
