Gaëtan Gerville-Réache, a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross & Judd LLP, has been elected chair-elect of the Appellate Practice Section of the State Bar of Michigan.
The section educates its members and the appellate courts about issues of concern to appellate practitioners through meetings, seminars, public service programs, a listserv and the Appellate Practice Journal. Gerville-Réache, a member of the firm's Appellate and Supreme Court Practice Group, will serve a one-year term in his new role before moving up to chair the section.
Gerville-Réache concentrates his practice in appellate litigation, representing corporations, banks and domestic and foreign governments in high-stakes appeals in both state and federal courts. He has handled appeals with more than $100 million in controversy.
Gerville-Réache has edited and authored two of Continuing Legal Education's major appellate practice guides and is the co-author of the ABA appellate-practice guide for Michigan. Additionally, he is one of the few practitioners to receive the Distinguished Brief Award for his Michigan Supreme Court advocacy, specifically on behalf of the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel.
Gerville-Réache serves on the executive board of the American Bar Association Council of Appellate Lawyers and is a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. He also is a member of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society Advocate's Guild and is editor-in-chief of the One Court of Justice blog, the leading blog analyzing Michigan's appellate courts.
