Speakers to explore law in the health industry

Five Wayne State University Law School alumni will discuss “Law in the Health Industry” on Thursday, Nov. 19, as part of the Wayne Law Alumni Speaker Series.

The event will take place from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St.
Featured alumni will be:

• Dr. Ernest P. Chiodo, class of 1986, who holds a law degree and medical degree and is working on his sixth master’s degree. A physician, lawyer, certified industrial hygienist and biomedical engineer, he also teaches toxic tort law as an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago and the John Marshall Law School Fernando Diazin Chicago. Chiodo is board certified in medical specialties of internal medicine, ocupational medicine, and public health and general preventive medicine.

• Dr. Fernando Diaz, class of 1995, who holds a law degree, medical degree and doctorate in neurophysiology/neurosurgery. He is chief of neurosurgery at Beaumont Hospital and chief of Beaumont Health System’s Neuroscience Center of Excellence.

• Bradley Lerner, class of 1995. He creates strategies to implement the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008 and the Affordable Care Act for Beacon Health Options.

• Donna A. O’Connor, class of 1984. She is senior counsel in Dykema’s Health Care Practice Group. O’Connor served as senior vice president, assistant general counsel and assistant secretary for the Detroit Medical Center and as senior counsel for Henry Ford Health System.

• David L. Rogers, class of 1982. He is a founding shareholder of Rogers & Bradley Lerner Associates PC, and his practice focuses on representing and advising health care providers and professionals.

Wayne Law Associate Dean Lance Gable, an internationally known expert on public health law and bioethics, will moderate the panel discussion.

Lunch will be provided. Parking is available for $7 (credit and debit cards only) in Structure One across West Palmer Street from the law school.

The event is free, but registration is required.
