The American Bar Association Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section will honor San Diego County Superior Court Judge Joan P. Weber with its Pursuit of Justice Award. The award, which recognizes lawyers and judges who have shown outstanding merit and who excel in providing access to justice for all, will be presented during the TIPS welcome reception at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 6, 2016, at the ABA Midyear Meeting at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego.
"The TIPS Plaintiffs Policy Task Force is very pleased to award Judge Weber with the Pursuit of Justice Award," said G. Glennon Troublefield, chair of Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section. "Over the course of her 25 years on the bench, Judge Weber has worked tirelessly to promote fairness in our society and restore funding in our courtrooms. She is a highly respected member of the California judicial system and is recognized by her peers as a consummate professional."
Weber is the immediate past president of the California Judges Bar Association and led the 86-year old organization's first all-female officer team. Currently serving as a criminal trial judge, she also acts as supervising judge of the criminal courts, supervising judge of the North County Court and presiding judge of the Appellate Division. Weber has also served on the court's executive committee for eight years.
Before she became a judge, Weber served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California. She also previously worked as an attorney in private practice, specializing in civil litigation in Phoenix, and served as a law clerk for Judge John Clifford Wallace of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Weber was admitted to the Arizona and California bars in 1981. She received her undergraduate degree from Ohio State University and her J.D. from the University of Arizona.
