LANSING (AP) — A statewide group of bicyclists is urging the Michigan Supreme Court to uphold a decision in a case involving the care of certain roads.
The court heard arguments Wednesday in a dispute over responsibility for parallel parking lanes on a popular stretch of M-22 in Leelanau County.
The case involves a Detroit-area woman who stepped into a depression and broke her ankle while walking to her car in Suttons Bay.
But the case could have broader consequences for roads across Michigan.
The Supreme Court is looking at a 2012 decision by the appeals court.
That court said the Transportation Department could be sued over the conditions because the M-22 parking lane is designed for vehicles.
The Transportation Department says it’s immune because the lane isn’t designed for vehicular travel.
