Four Wayne Law alumni to share expertise on policy making Jan. 28

Four Wayne State University Law School alumni will discuss "Policy Making" on Thursday, Jan. 28, as part of the Wayne Law Alumni Speaker Series. The event will be from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall 2242 of the Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at the law school, 471 W. Palmer St. Lunch will be provided. Parking is available for $7 (credit and debit cards only) in Structure One across West Palmer Street from the law school. The event is free, but registration is required. Featured alumni will be: Chris Bzdok, class of 1996, a partner at Olson Bzdok and Howard in Traverse City, where he specializes in energy and climate, primarily representing environmental organizations in utility regulatory proceedings. He was mayor of Traverse City from 2009 to 2011 and has served on the Traverse City Commission, Traverse City Downtown Development Authority and Traverse City Light and Power board. Jehan Crump-Gibson, class of 2009, who founded C&G Solutions PLC, a specialized firm that provides legal and consulting services. She has assisted clients with business-related and licensing issues, analyzed and prepared proposed local government ordinances, and performed legal and policy analysis on local municipal matters, including zoning approvals, government-sponsored tax incentive programs and contracts. She is former deputy chief of staff for the Detroit City Council and president-elect for the Wolverine Bar Association. Sheila Cummings, class of 2002, deputy clerk/register of deeds for Oakland County. Previously, she was the Democratic legal counsel for the Michigan House of Representatives, advising the Democratic Caucus on a wide range of legal issues, including ethics, elections and campaign finance law. In 2008, she served as a senior advisor for health and reproductive rights at the National Women's Law Center, where she participated in the drafting of a transition "blueprint" document to make recommendations to the incoming Obama Administration on women's health care issues. Michael Taylor, class of 2008, a partner at the law firm of Davis Burket Savage Listman Taylor in Mount Clemens. He is mayor of Sterling Heights and the youngest mayor of any city in the United States with a population greater than 100,000 residents. He also has served on the Sterling Heights City Council. Randal Brown, Wayne County chief assistant corporation counsel of the Real Estate, Tax and Public Services Division, will moderate the panel discussion. He also represents the Wayne County Land Bank Corp. and Economic Development Corp. of Wayne County. Brown holds a law degree from Howard University School of Law.
