Federal judge and newspaper to be honored March 10
The third annual Patrick Henry Event, otherwise known as “The Henrys,” will take place on Thursday, March 10 from 6-9 p.m. at The Community House in Birmingham.
Sponsored by the Patriot Week organization, the event commemorates the anniversary of Patrick Henry’s “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech, and will feature an appearance by actor Christopher Lowell portraying Benjamin Franklin.
The 2016 event honorees will be U.S. District Court Judge Avern Cohn and The Detroit Free Press, which will be represented by Editorial Page Editor Stephen Henderson.
Tickets cost $50 per person, and can be purchased online at www.PatriotWeek.org or by mailing a check payable to “Patriot Week Inc.” at P.O. Box 7590, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48302.

Co-founded in 2009 by Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren and his daughter Leah, the Patriot Week organization “renews America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents and speeches, and flags that make America the greatest nation in world history.”
WMU-Cooley to host ABA Client Counseling Regional Competition
Law students from Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia will be coming to Lansing on Feb. 12-13 to participate in the American Bar Association (ABA) Client Counseling Regional Competition.
Western Michigan University Cooley Law School will host the event, which will attract 12 teams and their coaches to compete for an opportunity to participate in the ABA’s national competition. The competition requires more than 50 volunteers to either judge the competition, or role play as a client in need of legal advice for each competing team.
“We are honored to have been selected to host this prestigious event for law students here in Lansing,” said Christine Church, WMU-Cooley associate dean. “An event like this is an opportunity to showcase the Lansing community and state to up-and-coming young professionals.”
The event takes place from 1:30-5 p.m. on Friday. The semi-final round will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. - noon and the finals will happen from 1-3 p.m.

The Third Circuit Civil, Criminal and Family Divisions will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15 in observance of President’s Day.
The 36th District Court will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15 in observance of President’s Day.
All offices of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan will be closed Feb. 15 in observance of President’s Day.
