The ceremonial “passing of the gavel” took place recently between two distinguished members of the federal bench, Denise Page Hood (left) and Gerald Rosen. A Yale University graduate and an alumna of Columbia University School of Law, Hood is the new chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, succeeding Rosen who held the position for the past 7 years. More than 500 people attended the investiture ceremony in the federal courthouse, including the chief judge’s husband, the Rev. Nicholas Hood III, senior minister of Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit.  A former Wayne County judge, Hood was appointed to the federal bench in 1994, and is a past president of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association and the Association of Black Judges of Michigan.
