DMBA appoints James Hermon, Maya Watson to Foundation board

On the heels of a very successful year for its foundation, the board of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association (DMBA) has appointed James Hermon of Dykema and Maya Watson of Bodman to serve on the foundation's Board of Trustees.

The Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association Foundation (DMBAF) recently closed out a very strong 2015 with a growing program of free monthly legal clinics and record attendance at its Archer Award event, which raised more than $150,000 for the organization's Access to Justice and foster children's programs.

At Dykema, Hermon is a member of the Labor and Employment group, where his practice focuses on advising employers regarding their obligations to their employees under federal, state, and local law, as well as representing employers in judicial and administrative proceedings in state and federal courts.

Prior to joining the Board of the DMBA Foundation, Hermon served on the Board of Directors of Children's’ Leukemia Foundation of Michigan and Matrix Human Services.

Watson, whose practice at Bodman focuses on banking and finance, was named one of Michigan's “Up & Coming Lawyers” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2014 and named Barrister of the Year by the DMBA in 2010. In addition to her new role with the DMBAF, Watson also serves on three additional State Bar of Michigan Committees including the Justice Initiatives Committee, the Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, and the District H Character and Fitness Committee.

Her past volunteer service includes the boards of directors of the Wolverine Bar Association, the DMBA's Barrister's Section, and the Greater Corktown Development Corporation.

“We're thrilled to have attracted people with such a strong track record of community service and professional excellence to our Board, and we look forward to working with them to expand our Access to Justice efforts and our work with foster children – not to mention gearing up for an even bigger Archer Award event in 2016,” said DMBAF Chair Keith Altenburg.

Hermon and Watson began their tenure on February 17.
